Did that even happen? Between 2006 and 2008, the Pilsen trio Scissorhands made a big splash as the best hope of Czech indie rock: they won the Filter magazine's award in the category of discovery of the year, followed by the recording of an album and then... nothing happened. They broke up. Didn't it all seem to us in the end?

The Super Tuzex Bros album is like a pinch that brings you back to reality, a tangible proof of the legitimacy of the hopes placed in it. It's a pinch of hands with scissors for fingers, slashing through the skin and snapping to the bone. "I think of Super Tuzex Bros as keeping a promise to the fans and the people who made it possible for me to start making this record and not stop looking forward to it even after all this time," says the Tuzex frontman.

"I haven't played the songs in two years and they've been around for a while, yet I wanted to give them a newer look. I followed my instinct. It's not an album that sounds like I'd record it today, but still, Mark Kopecky and I tried to use his studio as best we could," Tuzex says of working on a posthumous record that affirms Scissorhands' creative strengths.

Super Tuzex Bros. has all the fascinating audacity of the debut as a result. It acts as belt-ish as rock'n'roll, as rowdy as punk, as unabashedly nu-rave, and it doesn't care. You may be sorry to hear that Scissorhands won't be repeating it or going any further, but thanks to Super Tuzex Bros, no one will convince you that it was just a dream.
